When using our products, especially carbon steel in food prep, it's important to keep in mind that stains and rust may occur naturally. This is a result of the material and does not indicate any flaw or defect in the product. If you don't mind doing a little extra maintenance while cooking, our durable carbon steel tools and blades could be a great choice for you.

To help prevent rust, we recommend that you force a patina onto the blade before first use. This can be done with substances that contain acid, such as instant coffee, vinegar, or potatoes. Simply rub the substance onto the blade and then polish it to create a protective shield for the steel.

To effectively prevent rust on your knife, it is important to follow proper care and maintenance practices. After each use, make sure to wash your knife shortly thereafter to remove any food particles or acids that may contribute to rusting. Additionally, applying a thin layer of food-grade mineral oil to the blade can help protect it and provide a nice shine.  Food-grade mineral oil applies smoothly and is safe to use.

Proper storage is also crucial in maintaining the quality of your blades. We recommend using a magnetic strip on a wall or placing them in a dry cabinet or drawer. It is best to wrap the knives in cloth or paper to prevent any moisture buildup. Avoid storing them in damp environments, as these promote rust and can potentially harbor bacteria. We advise against using knife blocks or similar storage options as they can trap moisture and accelerate rust and bacteria formation.

Regarding sharpening, our blades are durable and respond well to proper care. We recommend hand sharpening and the frequency will depend on your usage. Pay attention to the sharpness of the blade and sharpen as soon as you sense it requires it. This can be a satisfying process and will help maintain the optimum performance of your knife.

We want our customers to get the most out of their knives and to enjoy using them for years to come. If you have any questions about caring for your carbon steel knife or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
